google+microsoft1Uk Prime Minister in June demanded that Google and other Internet giants should remove anything relating to child abuse or porn from their search engines. So far Google and Microsoft have been working hard to achieve this.

Google says they have over 200 people working on the new technology that will help filter the search sites of any child pornography present. Google’s executive chairman, Eric Schmidt explained how the search filtering techniques works now prevents over a 100,000 words only in English language.

They intend to make it available in 150 languages in the next six months, which will result in a global change.

Schmidt points out that automatically detecting and removing questionable images is very difficult. “Computers can’t reliably distinguish between innocent pictures of kids at bathtime and genuine abuse. So we always need to have a person review the images.” To help prevent the sharing of images that are detected, each is assigned a unique ID that makes it possible to rank it online — this is something that Microsoft has been heavily involved in. Google engineers at YouTube have also developed technology that can be used to track videos of child abuse, and Google aims to share this with other companies in future.

Google and Microsoft will now work with the National Crime Agency and the Internet Watch Foundation to bring forward a plan to tackle peer-to-peer networks featuring child abuse images.

They also intend to develop new technology that will help block the videos on child porn, so this is actually a welcome development in the society and it will be of great help.
