300 level student of Biology at the University of Abuja, Samuel Falowo also known as Pro’Meth has emerged winner of the 2013 edition of Nokia Don’t Break Da Beat Rap competition organized in partnership with Trace.
The 21 year old rapper won the competition at the grand finale held at 10 Degrees events center, Oregun, Ikeja thrashing out 9 other contestants who made it to the final stage while carting home the grand prize of $20,000. Pro’Meth was among the finalists at the 2012 edition of Nokia Don’t Break Da Beat rap competition which saw Tosin Kolajo a.k.a T.K.O, emerge as winner.
Michael Muyiwa Adebayo a.k.a EM.A; Chukwuebuka Dusten Anyasie a.k.a Dusten Truce; Henry Chukwu a.k.a H.E.C; Idowu Michael Kayode a.k.a High M; Golden Worlu; Adefemi Brice a.k.a Miekharry; Emmanuel Egwere a.k.a Psychobarz; Oshodin Imadeode Israel a.k.a Jurggis and Bobai Bitiyong a.k.a Baysix, all made it to the final stage with the hope of being crowned as Africa’s next rap king but didn’t try hard enough.
Speaking with excitement after the show, Samuel Falowo thanked Nokia for giving him another opportunity to showcase his talent to Africa and prove himself a worthy contestant. “I feel lucky to be the winner of this competition; I made it to the final stage last year but unfortunately did not win. I thank the judges for believing in me and I thank Nokia for creating another opportunity. Kudos to Nokia for creating a show like this, so youths can express themselves and be who they really want to be”.
On his music career, Samuel said that he will definitely improved on his music career and hopes to release his own music album in the near futures. “Being able to work with rap legend, Modenine, Eva, Majeed Onakoya and Jay Foley was indeed a privilege and I learnt a lot from them which will help me in building my career”.
Marketing Manager, Nokia West Africa, Kesiena Ogbemi congratulated Samuel for being able to make it as to the final stage and emerge as a winner. “We started with 300 rap lines which were auditioned. 30 rap lines were selected which led to the selection of 16 contestants and then the final 10 contestants. This competition was created with the aim of giving youths the opportunity to express themselves and I’m sure everyone that was at the finale can attest to the fact that the contestants had their space to show and prove themselves”.
