The West African Convergence Conference is an annual Forum which has been on since the year 2007. This year’s edition which is the 6th edition is slated for next week, November 15 at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers, Ikeja, Lagos .
This Forum brings together all stakeholders from the ICT sector both at state and federal levels, the telecoms, broadcast; banking and insurance sectors; education and entertainment; online retailing and the wider private and public sectors and they share ideas that will help move the ICT industry forward.
The theme of the conference is, “Emerging Trends and New Values in a Converged Market”. It is a one-day event and the keynote speaker is the Minister of Communications Technology, Mrs Mobolaji Johnson.
The focus of the conference is to enhance opportunities for some things which are listed below.
- Broadband deployment/Converged Infrastructures and how governments/private organisations can leverage on these;
- Cloud Infrastructures and the prospect for the delivery of new services
- Convergence of Digital Content,
- Digital Identification of Citizenship,
- Online marketplaces, e-financial engagements,
- Emerging challenges/prospects for regulations/regulatory institutions in the era of convergence.
According to a statement made on Monday by the organisers, they now have over 350 online registration for the conference and it promises to be major convergence of policies and action plans on technology trends as they affect people and the environment within the ECOWAS space.
Speakers expected at the conference include; Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Mr Emeka Mba, Dr Ashiru Daura, the acting Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr Umar Birdir, the Director General of the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotions (NOTAP). Vice-Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr. Eugene Juwah; Prof. Samuel Zalangar of Bethel University, United States; Group Head of eBanking at GTBank Plc, Mr. Deji Oguntonnade, among others.
