Social Media Week, an annual event that takes place globally and simultaneously at different cities around the world is finally here! The event scheduled to take place between February 17- 21 2014, has kicked off and the Lagos edition started on a good note.
#SMWLagos, the hash tag for the Social Media Week Lagos and the theme “A CONNECTED AFRICA IS THE FUTURE”, started with a breakfast session at the official event centre, Four Points By Sheraton, Victoria Island, Lagos. Keynote panelists like Jason Njoku, Gbenga Sesan, Tolu Ogunlesi, and a host of others and influential thought leaders, brands, agencies, start-ups and individuals as participants attended the different sessions that also took place on Monday. Business-Matter.com was there to cover the event and the different sessions until evening when we later moved to VolksWagen, another official event centre also in VI, where another session titled, “How Nigeria is Leveraging Social Media in Commerce, Communication and Citizen Engagement” took place with the Minister of Communication Technology, Omobola Johnson, as the keynote speaker. Omobola Johnson, while reading her keynote address said, “The internet revolution is similar to the industrial revolution. President Goodluck Jonathan said that we missed out on the industrial revolution, we shouldn’t miss out on the internet revolution. Our lives revolve around technology today.”
Business-Matter.com later went to Terra kulture, that same evening to celebrate the official launch of the new Nokia Lumia 1520. The event which was just a party for fun, eating, drinking and networking was attended by quite a number of individuals who had attended the Social Media Week sessions earlier in the day.
The Social Media Week Lagos continues until Friday with different sessions at different places in Lagos. Lots of fun and entertainment by record labels and music stars has been scheduled to take place at Club Pravada each night, as a way of bringing the participants together to have fun and network with each other.
