Nigeria’s economic centre will reach a new milestone when Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu signs the state’s N3.3 trillion 2025 budget into law. The plan, known as the “Budget of Continuity,” places a high priority on security, healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.
The budget’s more than 50% capital expenditures are intended to finish large projects like the Fourth Mainland Bridge, upgrade public transportation, and grow renewable energy projects. The state government expects to borrow money, get federal aid, and use internally generated revenue (IGR) to pay the budget.
Critics voice concerns about Lagos’ growing debt profile and its possible effects on future generations, even as many praise the budget’s ambitious scope. Lagos residents have been reassured by Governor Sanwo-Olu that the budget will be implemented with accountability and openness.
This historic appropriation demonstrates Lagos’s resolve to tackle its urban problems and solidify its standing as a development model in Nigeria.
