Nigerian mobile phone subscribers have joined the rest of the world with the kick-off of the number portability by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in Lagos on Monday.
Top officials and communication technology industry leaders witnessed the official flag-off. The system which is limited, for the moment, to mobile telephone operators only, has suffered delay and several postponements thus presenting it as a complex process which has tasked all those concerned in its management even ahead of implementation.
Apparently, the competition within the mobile phone operators is now getting more serious following an Ad from MTN which showed former Etisalat Ambassador “SAKA” singing “i don port o, i don port go MTN”….meaning he has switched Network.
Business-Matter.com confirm that Saka got paid a whooping N20m for this new deal. The ad obviously shows that Etisalat is an example of a network that people may want to port from to MTN. Airtel or GLO wasn’t mentioned.
Airtel and Glo are also running their own ads too. Etisalat is planning what could better be described as a ‘revenge’ on MTN.
