This article investigates Nigeria’s preparedness for a healthcare revolution powered by AI, looking at existing implementations, possible advantages, and challenges that need to be addressed.
CURRENT STATE OF AI IN NIGERIAN HEALTHCARE
A shortage of medical experts is one of the major issues facing Nigeria’s healthcare system. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the nation needs 237,000 doctors, yet there are only roughly 35,000 available. India is responsible for over half of Nigeria’s medical tourism outflow, which costs the country at least $2 billion a year. AI is advancing in Nigerian healthcare in spite of these obstacles. The Nigerian market for AI in healthcare is anticipated to expand from $0.01 billion in 2022 to $0.13 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 46.22%.
AI APPLICATIONS ADDRESSING HEALTHCARE CHALLENGES
