‘Gangnam Style’, a musical video by Korean pop star Psy, has surpassed one billion views worldwide on YouTube. The popularity of the song and its dance were already sky high and it has officially become the most watched video on Google’s video sharing site ever.
The success came just after it broke Justin Bieber’s record of 803 million views for hit single “Baby” in 27 days.
“According to YouTube, PSY’s success is a great testament to the universal appeal of catchy music, great equine dance moves. In the past, music distribution was mostly regional. It was more difficult to learn about great artists from around the world. But with a global platform at their fingertips, people are now discovering and sharing amazing music from all over the planet”
Despite the fact that there has been lots of viral videos on YouTube , it’s going to be a while before another video will surpass the heights Gangnam Style has reached. But, the nature of technology and power of social media, it is very much certain that a new viral video will be found.
