A deluge of outbursts has trailed the appearance of American singer Mariah Carey at Access Bank’s send-forth party for their retiring Managing Director Aigboje Aig-Imoukhede. It was learnt that thebank churned out the whopping sum of N200 million on the American R&B diva to perform in Lagos.

And this wastage comes on the heels of the bank’s recent sacking of about 200 staff members. Angry Nigerians have berated the bank’s management for spending that much to bring Mariah Carey to Nigeria.

Sources made available exclusively to Business-Matter.com reveals that the high end event which took place at Intercontinental hotel saw Mariah Carey performing for a few friends and confidants of the retiring MD alongside some top officials of the bank. Most high end level staff of Access bank were reportedly not allowed to attend the weird fun-filled event. Unlimited  bottles of champagnes were popped like water. It was revealed to Business-Matter.com that the Access Bank MD, AIG had been dreaming of hosting this exclusive lavish party among his friends.

While reacting, aggrieved Nigerians and sacked staff of Access bank have joined in lambasting the bank for spending so much to bring Mariah Carey to Nigeria. According to an ex staff of the bank

“I can’t imagine why a whole bank, an institution entrusted in keeping public fund will embark on such a monumental waste of spending such a stupendous amount on bringing a musician from the U.S for just a party, what kind of party are you doing that can’t pay a Nigerian artiste, we knew that was why he sacked almost 200 staff last month to be able to accommodate the wasteful party and launder some funds, the MD is too randy, that was how they’re using people’s money to acquire private jet, this is somebody that’s lobbying to become governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, his days are definitely numbered, we’re compiling documents of some of his financial atrocities to give to the press soon, we must expose them”

Other angry Nigerians have also come out to voice their displeasure at the wasteful spending by the bank authorities.

“What a waste. The corruption in this land is taking another dimension; this is the same bank that has no welfare package for staff and they are spending this much on a gig. I wonder when we’ll get it right. I am just sick and tired of this country where nothing seems to work” an angry Nigerian lamented.

Critisism have also come from an American media, Radar online. The media slammed the 44-year old Mariah Carey for performing in what it described as “the world’s centre of bank fraud and human trafficking”.
